STAYING SAFE WHILST DRIVING

#SpeedAware | While the worst of the recent weather may be behind us, we are reminding motorists that storm-related hazards can remain for days afterwards.

Strong winds can weaken trees and branches, meaning they may still fall without warning, even when conditions seem calmer. Debris on the road, standing water and damaged road surfaces can also continue to create hazards for drivers.

Please take extra care when travelling:

🚗 Slow down and drive to the road conditions
🍃 Be alert for fallen branches and debris
↔️ Leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front
🌳 Take particular care on rural roads, where fallen trees can block carriageways with little warning

A few extra minutes on your journey is far better than risking a collision. Help keep yourself and others safe by staying vigilant and adjusting your driving to the conditions you encounter.

If you come across a tree or debris causing an immediate danger to road users, report it via the appropriate channels or call 999 in an emergency.
